Among the most powerful and effective breathing techniques there is one that’s super special. Muladhara Breathing is rarely spoken about in public domain, leave alone taught or explained to the general public. At best, it’s kept a closely guarded secret among those familiar with esoteric aspects of breathing.

At the most basic, it’s pulling up the in-breath from the tailbone up along the sushumna in the spinal channel as in Hanuman Master Breath which I’ve explained through various posts and videos, including my groups on FB, YouTube and WhatsApp.

However, to get better results, it needs to be combined with belly breathing which also I’ve shared and explained through numerous posts and videos on YouTube.

Belly breathing helps bring a level of ease and relaxation in the system. Muladhara Breathing then becomes easier.

However, the most effective practice of Muladhara Breathing happens when the in-breath is pulled from the Muladhara and in the pricesss it’s made to act like vacuum cleaner or suction pump that draws in the breath through various chakras.

When these are combined with the ‘three-channel harmonium breathing’ with Lotus opening that are taught in a graded step-by-step method in SWA-TANTRA KRIYA, Muladhara Breathing becomes one complete and powerful breath that brings numerous benefits.

Among the most obvious and easily identifiable benefits is the immense cleansing of the Pranamaya Kosha (energy body) which frees the respiratory system of excess phlegm and mucus, including some very old and thickened globs that act as blocks in various parts of the system.

Numerous old aches, pains, etc begin to be quickly reversed.

Equally importantly, it acts as a huge boost for the energy system and ‘recharges the kundalini’ which may have become depleted due to wrong lifestyle choices and practices.

Even depleted and lost Swadhishthana (sacral chakra) energy can be replenished with Muladhara Breathing.

To start the practice on your own:

1. Relax your system (with belly breathing, if possible);
2. Exhale fully and wait a few seconds;
3. Bring your attention to the tailbone at the end of the spine (behindcanal opening);
4. Gently pull your breath up the sushumna (spinal channel);
5. Allow normal intake of breath through the nostrils and notice the part it follows;
6. After a full in-breath, wait a moment or two;
7. Bring your attention again to the tailbone and allow the exhale to move up the spine);
8. Stay relaxed and repeat the cycle a few times;
9. Slowly keep increasing the number of repetitions over time until it becomes lika normal or default breath for you.
10. Ask to join the SWA-TANTRA KRIYA Advanced program if you’ve completed the basic SWA-TANTRA KRIYA program.

The Muladhara Breathing will naturally, bring healing and balance to the Muladhara chakra to begin with and as you go deeper, the healing and rejuvenating energy will help with all other chakras as well.

While some might confuse the practice with Taoist Anal Breathing, in effect, it’s much deeper and more wholistic as it helps in rejuvenating the whole pranamaya kosha in unparalleled ways.

In my next piece, I’ll try and detail the benefits as this piece is already quite long.
