Navratras or the festival of nine forms of Shakti have a special connection with the chakras in the human system. By following certain breathwork practices one can use the heightened energies during this period to channel them relatively easily up the sushumna. Those who have learnt to activate the sushumna esp with the Hanuman Master Breath technique which has been explained on numerous occasions, programs, courses and taught via videos on youtube will get the best results from the breathwork meditations explained here. Day – 1 Shakti is worshipped in the form of mother Shailaputri. She is associated with Muladhara and by activating the chakra one can benefit significantly in terms of stability in life. Sit in an easy, relaxed meditative state with belly breathing and focus on your breath. You can start the practice if the sushumna is active. Just continue to breathe slowly in and out as you channel both the in-breath and out-breath up the spine. I repeat, channel both the in-breath and out-breath UP the sushumna. If you have done my courses, you’ll manage that easily. To know whether the sushumna is active, put a finger below the nostrils and if both are flowing equally, you’ll know the sushumna is active. If necessary (in case sushumna is not flowing) practice slow and relaxed anulom-vilom for about 15-20 cycles. That should get the sushumna flowing for those who are familiar with these techniques. Visualize the Muladhara as a red colored four-petaled lotus. As your breath flows through an active sushumna, channel the breath into the Muladhara area. Naturally, this will be easy for those who have cleared their nadis and mastered the practice of getting their energy to reach the Muladhara easily. Continue to breathe into the Muladhara, visualizing a bright red 4-petaled lotus with eyes closed and focused gently in the ajna (forehead area). If you have learnt and mastered the lotus opening techniques it will be excellent. Imagine two nadis – ida and pingala – bringing electrical energy into the Muladhara and charging it as you continue to breathe slowly. Within minutes you will begin to feel a heat sensation in the Muladhara area. Gently thank Mother Shailaputri and ask for her continued blessings. When the Muladhara chakra is activated, it means many blockages are gone and it helps one survive and prosper relatively easily. There are many other powerful benefits, too!
