Mental Health and the Chakra or (Endocrine) System

Mental health is an extremely important area of human concern and it’s becoming even more of a concern.

The issue of mind, mental health and well-being raises some central questions that must be addressed to get a better handle on these issues.

1. Where is the mind located?
2. What causes mental illnesses?
3. What is the relationship between mind and feelings or emotions and how do they affect each other?

While some scientists believe that the mind is located in the brain, that’s not quite correct and there are many who question it and disagree with it. They may have their own views. Do some independent research or Google the question and see what you make of it.

Before mental health issues can be treated effectively, one needs to have some idea where the mind may be located. At least some awareness will help healers treat the conditions better.

The second question what causes mental illnesses is also central to help find an effective cure.

One key aspect of mental illness is one’s inability to deal with ‘reality’! Mental health patients are often seen to be extremely conflicted. For example, something unpleasant may have happened in the past which still pains them. They fight it and feel uncontrolled emotions. But that doesn’t solve the problem. If anything, it might make it worse.

So, the next question is, what is reality?

Let’s simply acknowledge reality as ‘that which is’! That which has happened has already happened. It cannot be changed. But if emotions like anger, sadness, regret etc become too strong, they will only end up bringing more pain to the one who is already hurting.

So, how does one deal with reality?

Well, firstly, we have to acknowledge that ‘it is’! Then if we don’t like what is, we can try to change what can be changed. If we cannot change it, we simply need to let it be. The past cannot be changed, for instance, so any of those strong emotions about an immutable past can lead to imbalances. In some extreme cases it might lead to actions with worse consequences.

So, ‘accepting’ what cannot be changed is the first part. This ‘accepting’ does not mean one has to agree with it or condone it. One need only see that the past events cannot be changed. Once acceptance happens one can focus on healing oneself.

Also, understanding that everyone has been hurt and has caused hurt to others is a fact. Often, the hurt may be accidental or maybe something that was done without enough awareness.

Innumerable incidents happen in life where we may hurt each other intentionally or otherwise or due to a combination of many factors.

Something similar happens when one has excessive concern or worries about an uncertain future.

One commonality in most mental health issues is an extreme amount of obsession with some past events or imagined future ones. Staying focused on the present and doing those things that bring joy, knowledge, skills etc can help one move away from the causes behind mental health issues.

Notice, how emotions are closely linked to these situations and scenarios. And, invariably these are negative emotions.

Emotions are deeply connected with the chakras or the analogous endocrine system. They hold immense amounts of energy linked to different events that may have caused a significant emotional reaction, both positive and negative but mostly negative and often powerfully so!

Certain events may ‘trigger’ recall of these memories to which one may react almost instinctively.

Often, some of the ‘lower’ chakras emit a continuous stream of energy which creates a background effect. We often feel certain emotions out of the blue. When energy is stuck in these lower chakras and they release these emotions they affect the mind which expresses them as thoughts and recalls certain incidents, memories etc. The pincer hold of these emotions and memories impact the mind hugely especially when it continues for extended periods.

And, there’s the perfect recipe for some mental illness!

If one is able to disengage the mind from this pincer attack through hobbies, yoga, meditation, nature, music, breathwork, nature walks and numerous other activities they can actually succeed in changing the cocktail of emotions and hormones released by the endocrine system. That can easily and effectively free the mind and the longer it stays free of these the better the chances of a permanent cure.

The major point of this piece is to bring focus on the emotions and chakra system or the endocrine system that releases both positive or feel good hormones and negative or depression-causing ones.

The more one is able to move energy to higher chakra levels, the more easily they can cure chronic mental issues. Breathwork is probably among the most effective ways available to move energy higher.
