Kapha Dosha Balancing – Substantial Reduction in Mucus and Better Quality of Breath

Kapha imbalance has plagued me since childhood. And, as i grew, it got progressively worse. Certain foods like yoghurt (dahi), coconut water, sugarcane juice etc made it a lot worse.

Exposure to cold (draught from a fan or AC) after exercises and sweating triggered a cold and kapha almost immediately.

I tried to control and limit these as much as possible to protect myself. However, kapha like other doshas, can be very stubborn.

Since I’ve been a breath-watcher and breath-worker for many years and had great success with many different diseases and conditions i, naturally, tried to balance my kapha Dosha as well with limited success. It largely helped cure my COPD condition which is a close relative of kapha dosha and often accompanies it, exacerbated by years of heavy smoking. Today, even after 40 years of the habit, i breathe better than i did in my thirties.

I shared a tridosha (mainly kapha) balancing technique with breath some time ago, with limited success.

So, as my journey continued, i kept working on the kapha Dosha problem, too.

While, kapha production in the body has reduced substantially it’s not totally cleared yet. And, so my focus has long been on a technique to reduce kapha production overall to get lasting relief from the condition.

Of late, I’ve combined some of the Lotus Opening techniques with slow deep relaxed breathing and humming as in bhramari and chanting AUM even as i apply ghee to my nostrils thrice a day.

Using ghee in nasya is considered a powerful and useful practice to help with respiratory diseases and conditions.

Naturally, it should be pure cow’s ghee, if possible.

I apply non-liquid ghee in the nostrils and practice Bhramari and variations of Bhramari for a longish period of time.

Pranayama and chanting occupy a large part of my day anyway so these practices are not hard for me.

While it’s still early days and I cannot claim a complete cure yet but I can say with certainty that there’s a HUGE IMPROVEMENT in the kapha issues and production.

The human body, according to yogis, contains 72,000 Nadis. Many of these subtle channels of energy may well be clogged and blocked and clearing them can take years as it has done for me.

As a breath-worker I’ve been focused on this clearing and cleansing for years but now, I think, I’m at a stage where reduced production of phlegm and mucus are helping me clear faster…

The results are noticed in many areas of life…most particularly in the quality of breath…

Voice clarity and quality has improved drastically and I find myself able to sing better and to carry notes I never could earlier. I’m not a trained or good singer but it’s nice to sound good sometimes…if only to a few people…

While it’s still early days, I’m writing and sharing this so more can try and take advantage and share their gains so more targeted work is done in the area…

If you or someone close to you is suffering from Kapha issues, I encourage you to try this simple method and to observe over a period of time if things change wrt to Kapha and how much…

Here’s THE METHOD:

Apply non-liquid pure cow’s ghee inside both nostrils with the little finger. Wipe away any ghee that’s showing near the nostrils. Press both nostrils gently and pull in your breath somewhat forcefully to get the ghee coating to move a little more inside. Do this two-three times.

Go about your normal tasks for about half an hour. If you’re exercising and focusing on your breath (like I do) that’s wonderful.

Sit down in vajrasana or any asana that suits you and allow the ghee to act on your airways. Draw in a slow deep and full breath and as you exhale, chant ‘AUM’ or ‘Om’ as you like. Try to feel the vibrations in your nostrils.

The logic is simple. Chanting, especially Bhramari helps nasal airways to produce NO (Nitric Oxide) which is a vasodilator which means it helps certain channels to relax and expand. Ghee, for some reasons not entirely clear to me yet, helps speed up the process immensely. Maybe the movement of breath and the action of humming helps release certain molecules that somehow help reduce production of phlegm or mucus. This is just conjecture from one who’s seen the effects but not understood the cause of those effects enough, yet.

If you are familiar with the HANUMAN MASTER BREATH technique which I have shared on FB and also on YouTube, try to channel your in-breath and out-breath both up the spine.

Do this (chanting and humming) for about half an hour if possible. If not, 15 minutes at least is essential.

I’ve not focused on other areas and doshas so I’m not mentioning any of those yet. But I feel confident it will help with them, too!

Those who have learnt and practiced the SWASKOSH SHUDDHI KRIYA can combine elements from that technique also to get excellent results…

The HANUMAN MASTER BREATH and SWASKOSH SHUDDHI KRIYA have both been shared on my YouTube channel (@rajeshkanoi3837).

You may do this two or theee times a day. Notice how your Kapha Dosha responds in about ten days…and do share with me.

Watch out also for the new free weekly zoom sessions where I will take participants on a slow but powerful journey with their breath.

If you like you may join the special WhatsApp group for the purpose. Send me a message and I’ll add you there…
