In a sense, all energy in the human body originates from kundalini energy. If you like, you may think of kundalini as a reservoir accessed through a well at the muladhara (base chakra).

Usually, for most young people particularly, this well at the muladhara is capable of supplying as much energy as needed for most normal activities.

However, if the energy is overdrawn for any reason, the source becomes depleted and in time it can become so heavily depleted that a variety of diseases attack, ill-health ensues and one suffers the consequences of ill-health, disease, old age etc.

As we age, the amount of energy available becomes so limited that one struggles to perform the simplest of activities. Within, the body is unable to heal and repair itself.

Some who overdraw or overspend this energy begin to look drained out and haggard early in life.

In youth, the amount of energy available is usually quite substantial.

If this resource is used sensibly for a variety of sports, studies, hobbies and fulfilling activities one is able to create a strong foundation. The energy which flows relatively unrestrictedly in youth is able to help a young person develop a good balanced character with rewarding interests, skills, abilities, knowledge, will, intelligence and so on.

However, when this energy is allowed to be leaked in ‘wrong’ activities and ways, it only creates conditions for a challenging life ahead.

The list of negative activities is huge and encompasses physical, mental, emotional, social, academic, intellectual, attitudinal and so on.

Naturally, all these negative attitudes, activities and choices lead to the depletion of the kundalini well.

In youth, when the energy flows it needs either a channel or an outlet.

Most youth, especially these days, deal with the surfeit of energy in very wasteful ways…

Pornography and masturbation, argumentativeness, overthinking, sedentary lifestyle choices, wrong choice of books, reading and music, laziness, bad company and activities etc broadly speaking, to mention a few are some activities that leave the youth feeling low, depressed, angry and so on.

Unfortunately, adolescence, in particular, is such an age when most youth pay heed to their peers but almost none to those who may be able to guide them better.

In fact, the moment they sense someone trying to show or tell them something that might actually do them some good, they shut their minds off and close themselves to any such ideas. ‘Please don’t lecture me,’ is a standard response, voiced or invoiced…

The only way they may be somewhat influenced is by example. If the environment surrounding them is charged with positive energy, ideas, activities etc the youth are more likely to adopt them.

However, in most urban settings, a positive life and education are more of an exception than a rule.

The result is the wasting away of generation after generation of youthful potential and promise. Instead of living a happy, productive and rewarding life most become entitlement-conscious, judgemental and unproductive members of society.

This is what happens when kundalini energy does not find the right channels to move or to express itself.

Later in life, once kundalini energy is depleted, it becomes next to impossible to renew and replenish that energy though there are some breathwork techniques that achieve the seemingly impossible. Even 60+ and 70+ year-olds are able to renew their energy and themselves. But, unfortunately, these techniques are not widely available due to a variety of factors.

Under the circumstances, the best choice, especially for the more aware is to learn to watch themselves and conduct a regular ‘energy audit’ within.

That simply means being more aware how one is using their energy, towards what end, in what way it is making their lives better and more rewarding.

In my years in China as an English teacher, i used to evaluate even my expenses in terms of the amount of time and energy required to earn a sum of money that i was spending on a purchase or activity.

It made me more aware and cautious how to use my time and energy which are the two basic constituents of what we call life.

The energy awareness slowly helped me become a breath-watcher and the more I watched my breath, the more the breath shared her secrets…

Result was an amazing number health issues and conditions that were healed with just the power of breath and its invisible companion, energy.

I’ve written about them elsewhere so I’m not repeating it here…

Suffice it to say, that now I’m on zero medication unless I am faced with a condition like a botched-up dental intervention.

So, think of kundalini energy as your most valuable asset, more valuable than whatever wealth or money you may possess. If you are careful how you spend your wealth you need to a ten times more sensible how you spend your energy.

Value it, save it, channel it up and see your life transform before your very incredulous eyes.
