Ascending to the Inner Ram With Hanumanji’s Help

(Hanumanji Is Power of Breath, Reaching One to Ram is His Aim)

Ramayana and the story of Ram is inspiring and it has moved, helped and blessed millions across the world, esp in India and Asia.

There is a deeper allegorical meaning of the Shri Ram’s life and the story and those in the epic. It lso carries a powerful message.

Ram himself signifies the Atma or Self or soul. Lakshman ji is will power and aim. Sita ji represents the mind.

During the Vanavas when Ram has to leave his kingdom (Ayodhya) and go to the forest, Sita and Lakshman accompany him.

During this banishment, these royals live an ordinary life as common people and travel from place to place and experience a lot.

Once Sitaji sees a golden deer and is so enamored she insists on having it, she forces Ram to get it for her.

The golden deer was a demon in disguise and represents temptation and it was sent by Ravana, signifying darkness or ego, who asked a demon Marich to draw Ram and Lakshman away from their hermitage. Remember, temptation is created by the ego.

So, in effect, the ego wants to take control of the mind but it cannot do so as long as Ram and Lakshman are there to protect it. The ego, therefore, uses temptation to create desire in the mind which becomes so deluded (because it can’t see through the appearances) that in order to satisfy its desire, it forces the atma and the will to go looking for the object of its desire.

When Ram or atma went looking for the object of Sita’s (mind’s) desire he asked Lakshman (will) to guard Sita. Ram or atma recognised the golden deer in disguise as a demon, Marich, and confronted him. Since it took Ram time to return, the impatient mind (Sita) forced will (Lakshman) to go look for Ram. Lakshman marked a limit (rekha or line) around Sita which, if not crossed, would keep Sita safe as nothing would be able to enter through it.

Ravana, or the ego, deceives Sita once again by disguising as a mendicant and asking for alms. Sita, as a devout person, considers it her sacred duty to give alms to a poor mendicant and unwittingly crosses the limit set by Lakshman.

The moment Sita does so, Ravana kidnaps her and carries her away. Thus the mind comes under the control of the ego and is no more directed by the atma.

The mind (Sita) separated from the Self or Atma (Ram) feels extremely sad and pained. The same happens when the mind is separated from the atma and gives through immense pain and sorrow.

Ram on returning to the hermitage finds his Sita gone and goes looking for her. He discovers that she was kidnapped by Ravana.

Finally, in Ram’s quest to get Sita back, it’s Hanuman (son of the god of wind or BREATH) who goes looking for Sita.

This shows that the breath has the power to easily reach the mind no matter how it’s kidnapped and controlled by the ego and all its trappings.

The deeper meaning is, breath has the ability to bring back the mind from all temptations, distractions, difficulties to her Ram or Atma.

Hanuman ji with his army of monkeys is like the breath which works through all situations and Nadis and creates a path to wherever the mind is.

Ramayana shows that breath is the best way to keep the mind focused.

Remember, Hanumanji also helped resuscitate a comatose Lakshman. That means when the will is weakened, Breath can help rejuvenate it.

When the mind is safe from the games and deceptions of the ego and will is always around to protect it, one’s life and being become a Ram Darbar, abode of Ram.

Hanumanji (Breath) is Ram’s (atma’s) humble servant and is always ready and able to bring back a misdirected mind or a weakened will. It can help do a lot more.

Breath is powerful like Hanumanji!

Use your inner Hanuman (breath) to keep Sita (mind) by Shri Ram’s side and Lakshman (will) ever strong and able to protect Sita (mind) from the games of the ego.

Your life will become an Ayodhya, a place of great peace and prosperity, where the inner conflict caused by the games and deceptions of the ego are ended because the mind is always with the atma or higher Self.
