Acceptance and rejection are both important…esp for one trying to live consciously and reach his highest potential.
Anyone on the spiritual path is constantly made aware of the need to accept.
When we understand that the ego-mind-emotion complex is extremely judgemental and unwilling to accept anything that does not serve its purpose, it becomes clear that acceptance is an important way to disciple it!
In a sense we must coach, convince, and even coerce ourselves to accept…esp accept all those things, people, situations, energy etc that we feel impelled to reject!
We need to shut down that judgemental mind! And we need to bring those emotions under control and let the ego know that it’s not the master…it has a limited role which is decided by the ‘soul’ or ‘higher self’.
Is there really an ego and a higher self inside? How can we be certain? You might wonder!
The higher self is that which, by its mere presence, allows all the important functions of the being…heart beat, blood circulation, digestion etc etc etc. In the absence of that ‘higher self’ all these activities stop.
Ego is like shadow which is born when the sun of higher self rises. However, it’s not totally useless. It has a limited role. It’s tasked with responding to external situations, esp those where one’s existence is threatened and some action is needed.
Beyond that, it oversteps its mandate and becomes a liability! However, most are totally unaware of the ego’s limited role and cede control to it to an extent that it becomes the lord and master of the whole being. That in itself would not be a problem if the ego had one’s best interests at heart. Unfortunately, the ego works a set of influences and commands that bring pain and misery to one. Most have no idea how to contain it and what to do to start containing it.
If one’s awareness is in touch with the higher self, limiting the role of the ego will be easy. But the voice of the higher self, the conscience is strangled early in life and it becomes unable to speak or convey its messages.
Rejection! Before we reject anything in the world, we need to reject the commands and mastery of the ego. If the ego is sufficiently countered and contained, we will be far better placed to accept life in its totality!
Many on the spiritual path, strangely, reject everything…even as they acknowledge that divinity is omnipresent!
If divinity is omnipresent, doesn’t rejection of any part of life entail rejection of divinity?
I think, once we are sufficiently able to contain the ego, we are superbly placed to accept life in its multisplendored manifestations!
That, i think would be a wonderful way to live and experience divinity! Through total acceptance! An acceptance that comes out of the rejection of the ego…a false identity, in any case!
Then life may be lived in glorious truth!
