Deep in meditation once long ago,
He asked me what I wanted –
‘Spiritual development is what I want’
I answered – and my wish was granted.
I’d spurned wealth, power and fame
And my life went the normal way –
Upsets and disappointments came along
But what was there for me to say!
And, then when things became quite bad
The angel of darkness visited me.
He beckoned me offering wealth and fame
In return, I’d lose my soul for eternity.
In fear, I awakened from my sleep
And prayed as hard as I could.
The angel of darkness left me alone
As, unseen beside me, Hanuman stood.
Time went on and fortune changed
And I was blessed with some good luck.
I could spend my life in leisure
But I did not wish to remain stuck.
With prayer and meditation knowledge came
And also a deep peace of mind.
When people look at me first glance
They know I’m a different kind.
I have made my peace with me
And all things that are on earth.
I realize what things I really need
And what they are really worth.
