Channels of Breath – Pathways of Energy and Consciousness
One of the important things one must discover is the different pathways of breath in the body.
Most mistakenly assume that breathing merely entails allowing air to enter through nostrils from where it goes into the lungs, an air exchange takes place and oxygen replaces carbon dioxide in the system.
Those who mindfully practice yoga, pranayama and similar practices like the Chinese ‘tai chi’ etc quickly begin to notice that breath actually goes down towards the Muladhara.
Interestingly, the literal meaning of ‘Tai chi’ would be supreme energy or highest life force.
Tai qi recognizes that breathing well can lead to supreme energy.
Once one develops clarity and realizes that two very basic things – energy and consciousness – are the essentials for life to happen, he will begin to see life in a different way.
In Sanatan Dharma, Shiva and Shakti embody consciousness and energy. By building awareness of Shiva and Shakti and, more importantly, making them flourish within, one can easily strive towards their highest potential…
And, highest potential cannot be achieved with a low level of consciousness. Similarly, to get to a high level of consciousness one needs enough energy to work its way up the sushumna…
Interestingly, within the human body there are numerous channels of breath that can move energy up or down.
Discovering these channels within and understanding the role each plays can have a significant impact on one’s energy and consciousness, both.
Not only can one easily begin to increase energy in their system but also move it in ways that can bring the best results…
These practices cannot be learnt in a short period. They need time and dedicated practice in addition to a lot of discipline.
Increased energy without a corresponding rise in one’s consciousness can lead to very negative situations. Remember Kali?
Ma Kali symbolises raw energy…which the presence of Shiva (consciousness) begins to modulate. In Shiva’s presence Ma Kali becomes benevolent…Shiva has no direct power or control over Shakti but the presence of Shiva automatically changes how Shakti acts…
Similarly, within the human body, unless energy is both cultivated (increased) and conserved with a disciplined lifestyle, it cannot help raise consciousness. When there’s the presence of enough energy and it is consistently channeled up the sushumna channel, the best results begin to be seen. High shakti with a corresponding high consciousness leads to a great life experience…
Just as sushumna is the preferred channel to raise consciousness, the other channels help raise energy. However, if those channels are blocked or inactive, there will not be enough energy in the system…
Discovering these pathways, opening and cleansing them and learning techniques to make these channels more powerful can naturally bring get benefits…
