With an estimated nearly 20-24,000 (twenty-four thousand) breaths per day, it’s easily the one thing that you do most often…that everyone does most often.

With an estimated 15-16 breaths in and out per minute that equals almost a thousand breaths each hour…yet how well do you know your breath?

Chances are you know little, if anything…and the reason is that you never really paid any attention to your breath.

Yet, if you need to breathe as often and as regularly as this, there must be some very very good and strong reasons that your body needs to breathe so often.

It’s time you made an effort to familiarise yourself with your breath.

I dare say, if you don’t know your breath, you cannot – CANNOT – C A N N O T – know yourself.

Life, that begins with the first and ends with the last breath and continues only as long as one breathes, must include a lot of information, many secrets in that breath that you breathe continuously.

Let’s begin with a few interesting points to help you get to know your breath better:

1. Fast, irregular breathing signifies stress and emotional turmoil;
2. Slow, easy, relaxed breathing signifies calmness and peace.
3. Any strong emotion will change the rhythm of your breathing;
4. Breathing through the nose is the right way as it filters, heats and himidifies your breath;
5. Most normally breathe through one nostril or the other and it automatically alternates in about an hour;
6. On an average, 6-8 litres of air are inhaled and exhaled each minute;
7. The left nostril is linked to the right brain and the right nostril to the left brain;
8. If the left nostril is flowing, the right brain is more active and vice-versa;
9. When the right nostril is active, physical activities can be performed better and food digested better, too;
10. When the left nostril is active, it’s a good time for mental and creative work;
11. Breathing better can help heal innumerable conditions and illnesses, including COPD, asthma, ED, hemorrhoids, headaches, backaches, indigestion, constipation, depression, nerve issues and a lot more.
12. Simply learning to watch your breath can help you calm the mind and become meditative;
13. Belly breathing (as a new born baby breathes naturally) can help trigger the parasympathetic nervous system which helps the body heal and repair itself;
14. Breath is the body’s most effective toxin disposal system;
15. Heaviness and difficulty in breathing can be reduced easily by simply relaxing the belly.

By paying more attention to the breath, one can begin to take charge of their health and wellness. It can be a powerful ally in one’s search for deep spiritual truths and awareness.
