Trace emotions can be thought of as packets of energy imbued with memory of unpleasant experiences. Usually, trace emotions stick on like grease and affect all that we do. If you have grease on your hands, you can be sure you’ll stain everything you touch with grease, smudge it, spoil it and often make it unsuitable for certain kinds of uses.

The same thing happens with many of our trace emotions. Perhaps, we can use the term ’emotional grease’ for these emotions that linger on and affect our work, interactions, relationships etc.

Imagine, you’re driving down to pick up your daughter from school on your rare day off from work. Some autorickshaw driver accidentally grazes your new car. Naturally, an altercation follows and heated words are exchanged. You know, you can’t match the autorickshaw driver’s lung power or street power and you leave the spot seething.

As your teenage daughter boards the car, instead of greeting her pleasantly and asking about her day at school, you start ventilating at your daughter, asking why she cannot come back home on her own by some public transport…

You know the routine! It won’t end up great for you, her or anyone else at home. The atmosphere will become heavy at home with everyone snapping at each other and conversations becoming terse one word sentences.

Done! You’re done for! As is your daughter! And your wife! And your college going son! Now each of you will carry a lot of this emotional grease which will impact all you do! Slowly, such effects of emotional grease end up becoming your attitude!

‘Attitude’ which these days has become a buzz word actually credited with something positive is basically a lot of emotional grease that one flaunts with pride!

Attitude actually reflects one’s energy in relation to others, life, work, relationships etc.

A good attitude is one that’s largely free of emotional grease. It helps you win life’s challenges and battles with relative ease because you are able to go into a new situation free of emotional hangovers of previous interactions.

A bad attitude is one where one’s hands, words, actions, thoughts are also stained with emotional grease.

There are ways to deal with emotional grease. When you understand that emotional energy is stored in various chakras and you learn ways to use your breath to move energy to and from different chakras, you can start easily washing away your emotional grease.

Then you can go into a new situation, new environment or opportunity with a clean slate. Naturally, the results will be to your advantage.
